Shauna Sim

Biography

I was first exposed to music at the age of four and started piano lessons at the age of six. I later picked up the cello at 12.
I came under the tutelage of a Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) cellist and was selected to join the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) in 2002. Being passionate about music and perceptive to different genres, I also played in the Chinese Orchestra at school.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing in the orchestras and working with different conductors and fellow musicians. As the Assistant Principal Cellist of the SNYO, I had regular performances at Victoria Concert Hall and Esplanade Concert Hall. I also represented Singapore at the 10th Florence, Italy International Music Festival 2008 and the Opening Ceremony of Asian Games 2009. At the same time, I pursued The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 Cello and Trinity College London Associate Diploma in Cello with Distinction. During the same period of time, I achieved ABRSM Piano and Theory of Music (Grade 7).
I started vocal lessons and indulged in pop music while performing in gigs. I have been tutoring cello since 2008 and keyboard since 2012. I love to teach and enjoy sharing and making music with others. Music has honed my skills in communication as there is tremendous synergy when performing with fellow musicians. Learning music has instilled values like diligence, perseverance and confidence in me.
I am proud to say that my music journey has so far been fulfilling and opened many doors of opportunity.
